FEATURE: 1947 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery

What better way to haul some goods than in a classic Chevy sedan delivery.

Last week we headed over to Frame-Up Wheel Works, in Waukegan, Illinois, to chat with owner, Bob Janda. During our time at the custom hot rod shop, we spied this street-ready 1947 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery sitting out front and were told it does, in fact, belong to Bob, and serves as his regular driver.

Our interest was piqued and Bob happily obliged by giving us a brief history of his four-wheeled classic calling card.

“I came across the car in 1989 while at the Saint Paul, MN Street Rod Nationals. For the past 5 years prior, I had an open roadster and decided that I liked heat, air and roll up windows. I bought the Chevy with the intent of promoting the business and left the black paint alone but had the lettering applied and upgraded the drivetrain. It currently has a Chevy 350ci V8, a 350 turbo transmission and a 10-bolt rear end. About 3 years ago I installed the seats – they came from a late-model conversion van. I’ve got lots of plans for it but as they say,’The shoemaker’s kids go barefoot’ – I’ve been focused on the business. After 22 years I still haven’t done a whole lot to it. Although, it does get used quite frequently and on a weekly basis. I’ve driven it to Kalamazoo, MI, Louisville, KT, Oklahoma, Ohio, Minnesota – pretty much everywhere within a 1,000 mile radius of the shop and for all kinds of runs. Everyone teases me about the old, plaid interior and it does need replacing, along with the wiring and paint. I’m waiting until I can go through the whole thing and do it right.”

To see Bob’s ride up close – and a whole host of other custom machines – don’t miss the shop’s annual open house on Sunday, May 6th from 9am-3pm. Find them at 39108 Greenbay Road, Waukegan, Il 60087.
