It’s hard to grow tired of seeing a classic Chevy shoebox especially when it’s as gorgeous as this 1956 Bel Air two door hardtop. We spied the rolling icon parked at the downtown Palatine cruise night last summer and were drawn to its two-tone paint and glistening chrome and brightwork. A look inside the spacious cabin revealed a two-tone interior just as clean as the rest of the vehicle, complete with optional under dash tissue dispenser. A walk around the vehicle proved that from all angles, this bow-tie looked superb. We had no objections to a few patches of accentuating patina on the bodywork and thought the wide white-walled tires did nothing but add to the vintage ’50s vibe.
Chevrolet’s yesteryear factories produced 104,849 of these Bel Air beauties and today they’re more than ever popular with collector car enthusiasts. Still, no matter how many we come across at a cruise night, show or just rolling down the freeway, we can’t help but fall in love at each new sighting.
