Within a couple short years of launching their 88, Oldsmobile knew they had a winner on their hands. The model hit showrooms in 1949 and featured a lightweight body pared with a highly potent V8 engine, making it desirable for returning servicemen and folks with a heavy right foot. It may not seem like it, but the 88 helped pave the way for our favorite tire-smoking musclcars that rolled out of Detroit’s factories during the 1960s and 70s. We came across this 1950 88 and were smitten with it’s ruby paint and sparkling chrome and brightwork. The cabin was as spotless as the exterior, featuring a dark and light grey two-tone upholstery combination.
The 88 model lasted until 1999 but it’s these early versions like this red rocket that really have wishing for the keys and the nearest open road.
